Bread mix instructions
Welcome to your bread-making journey! Here's your step-by-step guide to creating delicious homemade bread using your 'Jamie The Baker' bread mix.
What You'll Need
- Your Jamie The Baker bread mix
- Warm water (around 27°C/98°F)
- A large mixing bowl
- Clean tea towel
- Loaf tin or baking tray
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare Your Workspace
Find a warm, draft-free area in your kitchen. Lightly flour your work surface.
2. Mix the Dough
Empty your bread mix into a large bowl. Gradually add 320g of warm water as directed on the package, mixing until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto your floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should spring back when gently pressed.
4. First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp tea towel, and leave in a warm place for 30 minutes until doubled in size.
5. Shape and Second Rise
Knock back the dough, shape as desired, and place in your tin or on a baking tray. Cover and leave for another 30 minutes.
6. Bake to Perfection
Preheat your oven to 180°C . Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped.
If you have made the charcoal, beetroot or spinach bread, they all compliment a cheese board perfectly!
Jamie's Top Tips
- Water temperature is crucial - too hot will kill the yeast, too cold won't activate it
- Don't rush the rising process - good bread takes time
- For a crispy crust, place a small dish of water in the bottom of your oven
- Let your bread cool completely before slicing for the best texture
